This variant is played on the surface of a regular polyhedron. There are 12 provinces, which are all land provinces. Every province contains a supply center. The standard Diplomacy rules apply, and the number of centers needed for a win is 7. So far, I have devised three subvariants, maps and rules are given below.
Pure (Standard) Dodecahedron
Diplomacy
Isolated Dodecahedron
Diplomacy
Crowded Dodecahedron
Diplomacy
The maps are obviously flattened to fit onto paper.
6 Players: Blue,
White,
Pink,
Yellow,
Red, Green
Every player starts with two armies in his two home supply centers which
are on opposite surfaces of the Dodecahedron, as indicated on the map.
This variant is totally balanced.
6 Players: Blue,
White,
Pink,
Yellow,
Red, Green
Every player starts with an army in his single home
supply center, as indicated on the map. The remaining provinces are neutral
supply centers. Due to the unique (isolated) position of Blue,
this variant is not balanced.
If only five players are available, Blue's home supply center is occupied by a garrison, which holds every move and is destroyed as soon as it is dislodged, thus creating a balanced five-player version.
12 players, labelled from A to L. Each player starting in his single home supply center, as indicated on the map.
